Enough of the trial and error style guesswork, because we've only really discovered half of the story. Fast-forward five days and I've got hold of the manual which sets the record straight about the two communications modes.

To demonstrate, I'm starting up the Domesday Machine in VFS, which will attempt to communicate with the LV-ROM player via the SCSI interface.
