Getting the water right is a crucial part of making good tea. This is why I always use my own kettle shown here, which boils on the hob. Although it might be thought of as a very old-fashioned item, it's fairly new. I bought it about five years ago and I find it makes far superior tea to using an electric kettle. There's no plastic to pollute the water, no element to allow a crust of limescale to build up and there's no automatic cut-off just as the water is reaching the right temperature!
