I had a bit of a disaster as the thing worked one time, then wouldn't work again. I was convinced that I had blown up the host adapter board (again) and set about fault-finding. After some hours, I found that simply removing the 74LS04 from the socket and reinserting it restored full operation!

But by that point I was concerned about the metal case coming into contact with the PCB, so I stuck a thick piece of corrugated cardboard to the bottom of the case and set the PCB on top of that. Previously it was only insulated by the 34-way ribbon cable passing underneath the board and then out of the slot in the case, which wasn't ideal.
