The switch is wired into the arrangement so that the common position in the middle goes to pin 4 of the socket for the 74LS27. The north side, or left hand as shown in this picture, of the switch is wired to the original pin of the 74LS27, and the right hand side, or south position, is wired to pin 4 of the 74LS04 inverter.
