Here we can see the PCB in more detail. It's much smaller and simpler than the BBC micro motherboard.
As with all Acorn 8-bit computers, the Electron has at its heart the 6502 processor. It also has a ROM containing BASIC and the operating system, 32K RAM, cassette interface, UHF modulator and RGB circuitry. But there is much missing when compared with the BBC micro: disc, Econet and speech interfaces, system & user VIA, Teletext circuitry, sideways ROMs, printer interface, analogue to digital converter, user port, Tube interface and 1MHz bus interface.
The Electron can be expanded, and this is done via the edge card connector to the top right of the circuit board. This allowed the "Plus" series of interfaces to be added to the back of the machine, including ROM cartridge slots and ADFS disc system.
