Formatting appears to have worked, and now the drive is being verified in chunks. The reason for all the timeout business is that we are communicating with the hard drive via the FileStore over Econet, and the test utilities poke some code into the FileStore RAM to control various disc functions, and so the user station has to wait until the FileStore has finished executing the code before continuing.
