Two things happen.

First, the nice picture frame we were seeing disappears. This actually disappears for two different reasons. The first reason is that the laserdisc player has to move the laser away from the frame being shown to mount the disc and read the first few sectors. The second reason is that at the start of any SCSI disc operation, the display of video is also switched off - this is distinct from the video mixing mode changing: the LV-ROM picture is still being displayed, but it's just that the picture itself is a blank frame as the video is off.

The second thing is that the video mixing mode is set to superimpose, or VP3, as we can see by the increased intensity of the BBC micro text.
