So we've learnt that VP3 mode is only selected when a "start-unit" command is sent to the LV-ROM player: selecting VFS on BREAK will always do this, as will *MOUNT. A general read of an already mounted disc doesn't cause a start-unit command, nor does *VFS is the disc is already mounted, so the video mixing mode doesn't change in these circumstances.
