So the Arthurian legend goes, it stands for "A RISC operating system by Thursday", because they only had 72 hours to write the thing before somebody important came round to have a look what was going on. Arthur includes the Desktop, just as RISC OS includes the RISC OS Desktop, and that's where we start.
