BeebMaster - Acorn A305

Acorn
A305

I mentioned earlier that this A305 is defunct. This picture shows the machine disassembled during a tinkering session to try to get it working. It wouldn't. The only thing that happens when it is powered up is that the fan starts up but nothing else occurs. It might be a faulty PSU or it might be something more involved. Since my Archimedes repairing skills are inferior even to my BBC micro repairing skills, I'm unlikely to ever know.

The picture does show how the 3-box arrangement would work. When fully assembled, the monitor would fit on the computer main unit with the keyboard plugged into the front, and the mouse plugged into the keyboard.

Although there's no mention on the main box, the Archimedes 305 was promoted as the next incarnation of the BBC Microcomputer, so the keyboard unit contains the BBC owl and the red function keys, which are only found on BBC-designed machines.

These pictures were made in spring 2009, which is a long while ago now, so I can't remember whether the keyboard came with the A305 unit or whether I already had it. I suspect it was all one package since it is an authentic A305 type keyboard which is shown here.
