This section gives details of my efforts to rescue the contents of the Domesday Discs. This was a process I had first attempted in February 2004 and the details here show my main activities on this front between September and November 2006.

The Domesday Discs contain essentially two elements, the file structure containing all the data including the Domesday software, photograph captions, help text and so on, and the audio-visual element, being the moving video sequences such as the introductory film, demonstration sequence, "Images of the 1980s" and the 120,000 or so individual photographs and other images each encoded as a single frame on the discs.

I am glad to report that by the end of November 2006, I had copied all the data from the Community Disc and I had made full recordings of the video frames of both of the discs. I hope you will click on the links above to learn more about Domesday Rescue and my little part in it.
