Station 201
BBC Master 512

This is the double-disc drive monitor stand which is attached to Station 201. It is mains powered and the disc drive ribbon cable can be seen in the picture.

The drive on the left is in fact a replacement for the original drive, which can still be seen in the Archive Pages for Station 201. It was originally a black drive which matched the casing a bit better. However, after I added Station 201 to my Econet with this unit as its floppy drives, I found that my Master 512 DOS Boot Disc did not seem to work.

A bit more investigation revealed the problem to be that the drive was only a single-sided drive, so I took it out and put in the drive shown above, a 40/80 track double sided drive.

In about March or April 2007, the drive developed a problem as I could no longer insert a disc fully. There was something causing an obstruction inside the drive but I knew that to take a look inside would be a major operation dismantling Stations 200 & 201.

In June 2007, having removed Station 201 from the stand to photograph it, I decided to take the drive stand to bits to get inside the faulty drive. It turned out to be metal cap covering the upper drive head which had come loose so it was easily removed and the drive is now back to normal.
