This picture set shows the events of Sunday 3rd June 2012, up at six, taxi to the station at 7.15am for our train to London at 8.20, arriving 11.01 and on to the Thames Diamond Jubilee River Pageant. When we planned the Diamond Jubilee weekend in the spring and summer of 2011, very little of the detail of the River Pageant was known, so we hadn't really reckoned on being present for the proceedings, thinking we would probably get to London late afternoon on the Sunday and then have all Monday and Tuesday on the Mall to see the concert and beacon lighting and the carriage procession and balcony appearance.
When it came time to book our train times in spring 2012, we opted to get to London pretty much as early as we could for a Sunday, bearing in mind that we weren't supposed to check into our accommodation until mid-afternoon anyway, hoping that we might be able to see something of the river pageant. As it happened, the pageant was so phenomenally popular with spectators that travelling to London from afar on the day wasn't anything like good enough for us to be able to see anything, but we did our best, and clicking on the picture links above will show more.
