The Diamond Jubilee UK Tour is in full swing, and it was such a treat to be present at one of the earliest dates in the calendar.

On Friday 23rd March 2012, Her Britannic Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh made a Diamond Jubilee Visit to Manchester. Arriving at Victoria Station on the Royal Train, a busy day of Royal engagements began with a visit to the Manchester Eye Hospital, then a visit to Salford Media City and the BBC for Her Majesty, whilst His Royal Highness toured Salford University. A lunch at the Town Hall came next, followed by the unveiling of the commemorative Diamond Jubilee Garden in Albert Square, and finally an "urban garden party" at Manchester Central.

It will never be possible for mere mortals like me to be present at every stop, so I usually select a couple of non-consecutive engagements and make sure I get a front-row position for them both: the four picture sets here show the events at Victoria Station as the Diamond Jubilee Visit begins, then a nice close-up look at the Diamond Jubilee Royal Train, later on at the Town Hall and finally some pretty pictures of the Manchester Diamond Jubilee Garden.
