I do not know much about this thing except that it is an IEEE488 adapter and the IEEE488 system allows scientific measuring equipment to be attached to a BBC Micro. I am pretty sure that this is an Acorn unit, although it is not branded in any way. The IEEE488 adapter came more usually in a cheese wedge box so what I have hear appears to be quite a rare variant.
The adapter connects to the 1 MHz bus and uses its own filing system, IEEE488 FS. I do not have this at present and I am yet to even plug in the adapter!
