It's something to do with the seconds-reset facility of the clock chip, where when sending a new time to the clock, if the seconds counter is 30 or above, the minutes counter will be incremented. I think if this happens at the same time as the date is incrementing to a new month, a date gets missed. Seems like a bug in the clock chip to me!
