MDFS
An impressive sight, I think you'll agree!
I decided that my MDFS Tower deserved an extra-large picture, so what you see above is was biggest image ever to appear on BeebMaster at the time I originally made this page: previously, the maximum width I had used was 800 pixels across, but this picture is 1024x880 showing the MDFS in all its gleaming white and black glory!
I put together my MDFS Tower in October 2004. It is made up of MDFS boxes which I bought on three separate occasions.
The first MDFS I bought was a fileserver box and hard disc expansion box which arrived in 2003. Unfortunately, it didn't take me long to break it because I did not have a key and I just couldn't wait to get it going and I managed to blow up the power supply. Hopefully I will be able to repair it one day. I think it just needs a new power supply but the keyswitch is also broken.
The drive box still works and it is the middle box in my Tower.
Earlier in 2004, I bought a second MDFS which consisted of the file server box, an expansion box with two hard drives and an expansion box with the tape drive. These are the first, second and fourth boxes in my MDFS Tower.
In September 2004, I bought an empty MDFS expansion box to which I added a Syquest drive. This is the bottom box in my MDFS Tower.
Five boxes of MDFS containing 1159MB of storage, in 20 hard disc partitions!
To recap, from top to bottom:
1. The MDFS file server box, which runs the whole show.
2. Expansion box with two hard discs. You can't see the drives because the original blanking plates are still in place.
3. Expansion box with one hard disc. If you look very closely, you can just make out that the casing on this box is slightly different from the others. Instead of smooth white, the casing is grainy and very slightly beige coloured. This matches my original MDFS file server box which it came with but looks ever so slightly out of place here.
4. Tape drive expansion box.
5. Expansion box with Syquest drive.
I think this is the most expanded MDFS ever built- unless you know better!
