Level 3
Illustrated
Guide
First enter the drive number of the disc to be initialised. If you have a double drive then it is sensible to have the Level 3 disc in drive 0 and the blank disc to be initialised in drive 1.
Enter a name for the disc. Avoid names like "Master" as Acorn-supplied floppy discs will have this name and all discs in use at any one time in the file server must have a unique name.
The next drive option will make the file server mount a disc in the drive number specified as the next disc once this disc has been mounted. It is therefore best to leave this option blank. If the specified drive is not available when using the disc, then the file server will not start.
Enter the date and, before pressing RETURN, remember to ensure that the correct disc is in the drive and the initialisation process will begin.
The disc to be initialised must already be formatted as an ADFS "L" disc, ie. 640K. The initialiser will partition the disc, leaving a bit of ADFS at the beginning and a Level 3 partition taking up the rest of disc. In fact, the size of the partition depends on the amount of free space on the disc. WFSINIT will begin the Level 3 partition from the FIRST FREE SECTOR on the disc and use all the rest of the disc. It does not check if the disc is compacted so you MUST COMPACT the disc before initialising it otherwise data may be lost!
