The FileStore is essentially a miniature BBC micro. It is driven by a 65C102 processor underneath the two drives and has an MOS ROM and FS ROM to control it. In the later E01S (the "Stacking FileStore") the two ROMs were combined into one chip.
On the right-hand half of the circuit board is a 6522 and a BBC Master Series Econet Module. The Econet clock circuitry is underneath the Econet module.
The date codes on the various chips indicate that this unit was made in early 1987. Given that the FileStore Service Manual predicts a life span of three years, that's not bad at all!
