During my Domesday 2010 experiences, I designed a utility to try to decipher the Disc Status and Player Status bytes which can be read from the VP415 using F-codes "?D" and "?P".
Each request returns 5 bytes as ASCII codes, and the data can be broken down into the individual bits of each byte to try to identify what information is being provided by the player.
For much of the development of "LVStatus", only the extracted bits was shown on screen as I tried to make sense of what it all meant. Then I discovered the VP415 operating instructions on my PC, so I was able to fill up the lower half of the screen with a report on what the status bytes are telling us! I hope you will click on the picture links above (hiding behind the sofa if necessary) to learn more.
