Domesday
2010
This is the view from the back of the LV-ROM player showing all the connections. From left to right: mains power, RGB lead which goes to the BBC RGB, RS232C serial lead which goes to the BBC RS423, and SCART lead which goes to the monitor.
Just as significant is the one connection we haven't made - SCSI - which isn't being used for the time being as I'm going to communicate with the player serially not scuzzily.
This player, as I hinted in the previous picture, is not the good one used in all my previous working Domesday setups, but the one with the broken drive door.
Part of the purpose of Domesday 2010, in addition to using serial communications, was to try to cobble together a working Domesday LV-ROM player from my original VP410 and VP415 in the hope of having a spare for when that inevitable day decided to come along and the good VP415 conks out.
Fortunately I was successful in repairing the broken VP415 with spares from the VP410 because the good VP415 did indeed conk out quite early on in my Domesday 2010 efforts, before I even had a chance to photograph any kind of setup! So now the only working Domesday player I have is the cobbled together one, as my attempts to repair the ailing PSU on the previously good VP415 have as yet proven unsuccessful.
