Again, we get error 142, the unknown error, when the disc spins up to speed and then attempts to start playing. After reporting this error, the disc then stops.

I can't remember to what extent I tried to work this VP415 when it first arrived in 2003. I knew the drive door mechanism was broken, but I cannot recall if I did try playing a laserdisc after manually opening the drawer. I may have already known in 2003/2004 that the player would attempt to spin up but then refuse to play a disc and stop again, or it might be that I only discovered this after testing out the player in May 2010. Certainly, by the time I came to try out the diagnostics software, I was aware of the symptoms.
