Diagnostic self-test mode, and errors 81 and 85 are showing up. The reason for the high number of errors detected, incidentally, is that you may have noticed in the last couple of pictures that I'm playing a CLV disc. See the time code intead of the frame number, that's how we tell. Part of the diagnotic self-test puts the player into scan mode, and CLV discs come off much worse in this mode, with the picture being distorted or breaking up altogether. This sets the error counter soaring in a way which doesn't happen for CAV discs, which play pretty smoothly even in scan mode.
