The warning here is because of the way the disc tray works. When ejected, the tray only comes out a fraction and then has to be opened fully by hand. Similarly, when closing, you push the tray almost shut and then the motors take over and draw the tray in the final short way.
All the other laserdisc players I've seen apart from these Philips VP400 series machines have a fully automated drive tray, more like CD and DVD players are nowadays. Some early laserdisc players had top-loading disc trays but I've not seen one in the flesh yet!
