Rescuing the
Domesday
Data
Here I have logged on to the Level 4 Econet. The A5000 is Econet station 50 and logging on as user IAN takes me to the directory IAN in the Econet area of the second IDE disc.
For some reason with version 1.00 of the Level 4 file server, the library directory is not correctly set if the "root" directory for the file server is not the actual root directory of the disc, i.e. $. So I have to set the library directory and then I can use the library utilities.
*READFREE gives a read-out of the user free space currently allocated, which is about 1GB, so it should be enough for this operation!
Level 4 Econet is the only file server which can cope with file sizes large enough to copy the Domesday Discs, which contain some huge files. Earlier Acorn file servers have a 16MB file size limit and the SJ Research MDFS has an 8MB limit, so I discounted these options in my Domesday Rescue efforts.
I also ruled out the possibility of connecting up an ADFS hard disc to the Domesday Machine as I do not have a disc big enough to hold all the files.
