The first computer I owned back in 1988 was a Spectrum +2, the one with 128K and proper keys and the cassette deck built in on the right-hand side. This is the next one up, the Spectrum +3, which has the floppy disc drive in place of the tape player. I always wanted to upgrade my Speccy to discs, but I went into Beebs instead.

Thinking about it, it must have been very limiting to have the storage device built in like this, and not be able to change it or add other storage devices. Just imagine if I had upgraded from a Spectrum +2 to +3. I would have had to buy all the tape games all over again on disc!

One day, somebody will think of doing away with video tapes and try to con everyone into buying their entire film and TV library all over again on some disc media or other! Not me, I've bought two brand new video recorders and put the them in storage for when the current one conks out, so my tapes will still be playing in 40 years' time!
