This is a close up of the disc interface area of the motherboard. The BBC B+ could be fitted with either an 8271 or a 1770 disc interface, although I would be interested to hear from anybody with an 8271 B+. I have read a number of times that the BBC B+ plus was fitted with a 1770 disc interface as standard but this machine appears to contradict this as it is tape-only. The fact that there is space on the board for either an 8271 or a 1770 (but not both as the space for the two chips overlaps) also appears to count against this theory.
