With the casing removed, this is the board inside. The main components are a control ROM, Motorola controller chip, ADC chip and some logic ICs.

The idea is to provide some of the expandability of the BBC series to the Compact by restoring a number of the interfaces deleted from the Master Compact hardware, so we have analogue port, user port and (curiously) 2MHz bus.
